About Rudouzi (hand-sewing on fabrics – a kind of needlework)

The embroidery and needlework in Iran have a strong history and in each period, a special beauty can be found in this art.

Rudouzi is the art of hand-sewing to create beautiful designs on simple fabrics, during which rural girls and women create original and traditional patterns and designs on fabric using needles, hooks and colored threads. To do this, they usually used special needles called "Between" and "beading needles". This art is also known as needlework and its lines are displayed on non-patterned simple fabrics. The artistic combination of plain fabric with yarn and other decorative items gives life to the embroidery industry. In Tehran, you can also buy fabrics that are decorated with this art. Rudouzi has a historical background in Tehran, but very few artifacts can be found in Tehran these days.

Batik printing is a type of fabrics printing specially silk by applying patterns on them by specific methods that is more common in the cities of Tabriz, Osku (in East Azerbaijan Province) and Tehran. It has been popular in Eastern Azerbaijan for a long time.

Batik printing means resistant printing, or in other words, covering parts of the fabric's surface, with a resistant material that prevents the dye from penetrating into the fabric and in this way, patterns are formed on the fabric. In this printing method, very beautiful and artistic designs are printed on fabric using molds. Also, fabric printing (Batik printing) is used in printing on various surfaces such as: wooden, gypsum, metal and glass surfaces. To do this, they use natural colors such as turmeric, pomegranate, reseda. However, considering the situation of Tehran's handicrafts, there is a low possibility to find this souvenir in Tehran.
